Ohio Map - Cities and Towns
I saw this on Etsy awhile back and I loved it.

I kind of love this but am slightly annoyed by the placement of Cleveland (and neither of my 2 ‘hometowns’ are on here - they’re sort of smashed between Rittman & Akron on the Brunswick side).
The Great Serpent Mound (Bratton Township, Adams County, Ohio) is a 1,348-foot-long,three-foot-high prehistoric effigy mound. It is one the largest effigy mounds in the world and thought to be constructed about 1070 AD by the Fort Ancient culture.
I’ve wanted to see this in person since I first learned about the ‘serpent mounds’ as a little kid

This afternoon, Columbus will have its first female police chief: Kimberley Jacobs, a 33-year veteran of the Columbus Police Division.
Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory finally made good on his bet with Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman.
I don’t talk about politics or sports much, here at Fuck Yeah Ohio, but when when our mayors start sending each other ice cream, I can’t help it.
I have to agree with Mayor Coleman on this too. Graeter’s is almost as good as Jeni’s, which would make it the second best ice cream in the world. It’s not really a fair comparison though. Graeter’s has been making traditional ice cream for like 142 years now. They know ice cream. Jeni’s is only a few years old, but makes ice cream in delicious new flavors you’ve never heard of. Let’s say they’re both at the top of different classes.
Let’s talk this up. Jeni’s is based out of Columbus. Graeter’s is based out of Cincinnati. Think about it…
OHIO: The Ice Cream State
Yeah. I like the sound of that.
Oddly I had almost the exact same conversation about Graeters v. Jeni’s at work today.
Just after I finished the previous POST about the 23 new apartment developments in and around the downtown area, the Columbus Dispatch ANNOUNCED that Capital South Development Corp reached an agreement with Atlanta, GA based Carter to sell them 2 acres of land at Columbus Commons for $2Million, allowing Carter to pump a total of $50Million into 2 buildings that will house approximately 300 rental units and roughly 23,000 sq.ft. of retail space.
This kind of mixed use development has always been the 5-10yr plan (as announced in 2009) for the Commons - somewhere to live with close access to retail, employers and an array of recreational activities. This Carter development is expected to be completed in 2014.

Columbus can’t get people to move downtown. Here’s what the article says the price range for these apartments will be:
Rents at the Columbus Commons apartments would range from about $960 per month for a 600-square-foot studio to about $2,500 for a 1,600-square-foot townhome, Taylor said. That’s similar to the $1.60 per-square-foot price seen in other high-end Columbus apartments, he said.
$11,520 / year for a STUDIO apartment. I love downtown Columbus, and since I bike everywhere, living downtown would be superconvenient in terms of being bikable to everywhere.
I make very a modest middle class income, but have big expenses (car payment, student loans). C makes a very, very small income (although also has less expenses). BUT we do not have children and our discretionary income is spent doing all the things downtown offers (concert venues, sports). We’re the type of people developers should be building for downtown. Because we’re not going to pop out some children and flee to the ‘burbs.
(Note there is some ableist & ciscentric language in the article)
