They aren’t aware that the video actually did spark protests—some of them violent—in several countries, on the same day as the attacks and Benghazi and after.

They aren’t aware of statements officials made regarding Benghazi, allegations of terrorism, or connections to Al Qaeda in the days and weeks following the Benghazi attack.

In many cases, they don’t even know where Benghazi is or what country it’s part of.

They know a handful of select “facts” and, completely disregarding any and all context, have run with this absurd fantasy that there is some massive coverup about Al Qaeda’s involvement in the Benghazi attack or the fact that it was a coordinated attack, which is apparently a secret that’s been hidden for months, even though officials have been making statements about this from within days of the attack happening and anyone who isn’t wearing a tinfoil hat and has been paying attention was already aware of months ago.

There is no scandal here. I keep asking people, “What do you think happened? Why should I be upset?” and so far, no one has told me anything that isn’t 1) completely false, 2) a fact stripped of all context, and/or 3) something totally commonplace and to be expected that’s only outrageous because of its association with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Benghazi can be tossed into the conservative conspiracy crapper along with death panels and teleprompters.

So, I was perusing xoJane earlier and I saw that there was an article published about Angelina Jolie. “Angelina Jolie’s Double Mastectomy Defines Femininity, Empowerment.

While I do applaud Angelina for what she did, I had to pump the breaks right then and there. Newsflash to the author of that article, the actions of ONE woman can not define femininity and empowerment for ALL women.

Angelina confessed that she was at a high risk for developing breast cancer and the preventive surgery was her best chance at avoiding any sort of issues with cancer down the line. I have no problem with what she did. A double mastectomy was a brave and smart decision. However, I have so many issues with the author of that article heaping praises for days. Angelina had a double mastectomy and reconstructive breast surgery with implants. Let’s be honest with ourselves. She is in the position to be able to do that. She’s in the position to be able to not only afford that kind of healthcare but also not have to worry about losing money for taking time off from work for her recovery.

Let me also say this. Angelina Jolie is not the first woman to have this kind to surgery nor will she be the last. What about the women who have lost their hair and had double mastectomies? What about the women who have lost one breast and choose to not have an implant? Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with Angelina getting implants. Each and every woman has the right and agency over her own body to make decisions about what she wants for her body. But to put her on this pinnacle of praise? To say that she “defines femininity and empowerment?” Where is our praise for the thousands of women who have quietly endured this struggle?

Again, another instance of my issues with mainstream white feminism. A white woman writing about another white woman that does something that defines “femininity” and “empowerment” for the rest of us. I’m sorry, I won’t accept that.

This is pretty much all the stuff that’s bothered me about this ‘news’ today.
