I really don’t like the idea that there are only a set group of girls in the world who have the ‘potential’ to become Slayers. I thought that idea was the one time the show went against empowerment and equality.

I kind of think the opposite. The premise of the show until the Potentials is that there is only one girl who can fight back. Buffy uniting and calling all the Slayers shows the level of power girls (women) can have together as a force in the world. Especially when they’re not forced into positions of caretakers, mothers, homemakers but allowed to be who they really are. 
I know I’m in the minority in liking the Potential story line, but that’s why I love it.
