This is how my Nan was banned from Church
thecuntmentality: ankhst: fuckyeahgenderstudies: lgbtlaughs: shutupmerlin: My sweet, elderly nan was banned from the Catholic church because she interrupted a sermon and told the entire congregation to go to Hell after they shunned my Uncle for coming out. She also called the Father (or whatever) a cock sucker, and said she was proud her son was one. (Ha!)  So yes, my nan is a...

Most favoritest German word I have learned...
myvivavoce: Zeitkameraden. It’s German, and my teacher indicated we should translate it as contemporaries, as in “She was well-respected among her contemporaries.” But. It literally translates to “time comrades”, and this is so much more awesome of a translation. It sounds like some kind of Soviet comic book featuring a clever and resourceful band of time-traveling communists. Translation is...

rosalarian: DCWomenKickingAss just posted an entry called “Hide the girl! The troubling approach to movie marketing”. Seems DC decided that despite the fact that this new (straight to video) movie stars Supergirl, they would put Batman and Superman’s name on the cover… but not hers. The reasoning:…

Renewed Love Affairs with Music
Tonight I went to see one of my formerly favorite bands. C & I were both really, really into them for awhile. Then their music got a little too polished & pop-py. And they stopped coming through our town for almost 2 years. They came back tonight. After working almost 10 hours straight, I headed into the already-in-progress show to meet up with C. I was thinking only of heading to the...

Just Saw a Terrible, Awful, "horror" Movie
It’s titled “Demonic”.  Do not ever waste your precious time with this crap.  (Look - it got a “D+” on Yahoo movies review and that’s really generous). It didn’t even warrant an IMDB entry.  It’s horror movie season, so I’ll be watching tons of them for the next month or so.

Insurance Companies End Coverage For Children →
kateoplis: Marking the six-month anniversary of health care reform, the White House has launched a new website to explain what it does (and doesn’t) do. At the same time, several big, ever-noble insurance companies have announced they will no longer cover children (under child-only policies) because the new law won’t let them turn away sick ones - ie: they can no longer deny coverage to kids...

clitorisaurusrex: This is a really fucking good question. Because the majority of shows are written by men, or rather usually teams that are mostly men. And we’re all taught that women are supposed to “get” a man as her big prize in life - it’s always all about them. Thanks, patriarchy!

Taking myself out to see Easy A! Really, really want to ride my bike. I never end up biking to movies because I don’t want to leave my bike locked up out of view for 2 hours at a time. I should really just get a second (cable) lock to double up w/ my ulock. But who wants to carry all that around? Also got invited to a horror-movie watching fest tonight. Guess it’s a movie day.
